Matthew D.
Private tutor in San Fernando, CA
Education
At California State University Northridge, I completed my B.S. in Biology with an option in Ecology and Evolution in May 2015. I finished with a 3.0 GPA and received Dean''s List once. I am planning on returning to California State University, Northridge in the fall of 2016 to pursue my Master's degree.
Experience
I have two years of experience tutoring science from the 5th grade level, up to sophomores in university. I have also worked as a tour guide at two zoos where I was regularly commended for my enthusiasm and clarity when communicating the "big picture" of how humans interact with the earth. I spent four years doing professional undergraduate research on the physiology of house geckos . My research experience lead me to take a semester abroad in Ecuador, where I had to design two experiments and collect data. I later would present these experiments at my school, and qualify for Dean's List for my semester in Ecuador. I would like to continue being a tutor because I enjoy education. I enjoy trying to solve the puzzle, that is helping a student learn something new.

Hobbies
I carry with me a lifelong passion for studying herpetology (study of reptiles and amphibians). One of the most important things I've learned is that reptiles are dealt a bad deal in our society, and most people don't know the benefits they bring (like pest control). I've used my scientific reasoning to teach others that reptiles don't need to be feared. It always does my heart well if I convince one of my reptile-phobic friends to hold one of my pet geckos, because the reaction is always the same. People tend to become gleefully excited, and they realize that this is one less thing to fear. I think I take on a similar approach to tutoring a subject a student thinks they're "bad" at.
